My view of the Olympics

I do enjoy sport - but I do not have a 9 days attention span for it! It has been on most of every day in my house - so I have been working hard in office or studio and dipping in to see how everyone is doing now and again. Been super impressed by the achievements but I cannot watch it for 10 hours a day!

Decided to show you my view of the games ...

Behind the scenes

I know I say that this blog is supposed to be behind the scenes of what I do - but I sometimes forget to capture me doing what I'm doing whilst I'm doing what I do.

But when you have an assistant they can grab my iPhone and capture me doing my thing - so I thought I would share these with you from last night.

Catching that shot before the sun goes down

Yes that is a van on a fence post and yes I am standing in the lake!

Exhibition number one - The Making House

Here is your invitation to my first exhibition. Titled 'Force of Nature' I will be exhibiting alongside Michele McDonald and Mark Smith at the Making House, 50 Bearwood Road, Winshill, Burton.

My work is my series titled 'Liminal' - examining the boundaries and thresholds between man and nature and our perception that we master it but in fact are insignificant in comparison.

Preview night - 17th August 6-9pm

Plans are afoot to make the preview evening - 17th August 6pm-9pm - as much fun as possible with food and drink and goodie bags being prepared.

If you cannot make the preview evening then please pop in on the opening dates shown on the invitation or contact me if you would like a private view outside of those times - which can easily be arranged.

All work is for sale and available in all shapes and sizes to fit all budgets. You will also get the chance to have a look around The Making House, a unique venture set up by Anna Roebuck, after her success with Bags2Riches. Anna is a contemporary artist herself who supports and develops other local artists. It's right on your doorstep so you need to get along and support Anna and appreciate all the local talent that exhibit and sell at the Making House.

Mark, Joanne and Michele will be available to discuss their work at the preview evening and you can contact them via their websites shown above as well.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Exhibition fever

I think one of the reasons I have been so quiet on the blogging front - is partly due to Instagram - but also due to the work I have been doing in preparation for the 4 exhibitions I am involved with over the next 12 weeks.

My printer has been going great guns printing off invitations, cards, flyers; emails have been whizzing out and I've had meetings with fellow exhibitors and organisers to ensure all is going to plan.

  • Melbourne Festival Art Trail, Assembly Rooms, Melbourne. Art Trail September 15th 10am-6pm and 16th 10am-5pm. The Art Collective called CRE8 will present items of work covering a wide range of photography and art disciplines. Like the CRE8 Collective on Facebook.
  • The Making House, 50 Bearwood Hill, Winshill, Burton. Preview Night tbc. 'Making' exhibition is work by three photographers looking at ways to 'make' whilst capturing images. 28th September - 20th October - gallery open Fri & Sats only but private viewings on request.

Poor, Proud and Pretty

Went to see an exhibition of my friends work on Friday at the Venture Theatre, Ashby de la Zouch.

Chris Mear was exhibiting his work for Disintegrating Histories and the work he did whilst volunteering in Tanzania. He had a unique way of hanging his work - which I think worked really well and got around the issue of him not being allowed to hammer and drill into the wall at the Venture Theatre. All items were on sale and in particular the limited print run of the books he has created for each of these pieces of work.

Click on the link to go to poor, proud and pretty website to buy your own copy.

I love Chris's work and in the new work for disintegrating histories I am seeing his work develop with subtlety and his subjects clearly love having him around.

Exhibiting with Chris was Kate Doyle - showing her work 'Man in a Wood'. It was good to see all of the images from this piece of work together at last. I also loved Kate's unique way of showing her work bearing in mind the constraints imposed by the venue about attaching items to the walls.

Well done to you both and I hope you manage to get it on tour and I will be along to see it again if you do.

Behind the Scenes - Ghostbusters

I have always said that this blog should be a look behind the scenes. On a job recently I got the chance (with my new iPhone) to capture a set up.

We were all a little worried that photographing a photograph of a scene that is being photographed would result in some sort of disaster akin to the beams being crossed in Ghostbusters - but we were all OK.

Thanks to Yvonne and Laura - it was fun
